GO BANANAS FOR ESCAPISM AT CHEEKY SHOW

- SUZANNE SIMONOT

AUDIENCES can look forward to an eye-poppingly entertaining extravaganza when the creators of one of the Gold Coast’s most popular adult cabaret shows unveil their latest creation, Deluxe Deluxe.

The Gold Coast’s Home of the Arts (HOTA) will host the month-long world premiere season of the latest show from the inspired creators of Blanc de Blanc, a crowd favourite when it pitched its Spiegeltent in Broadbeach before an encore in Southport.

Director Scott Maidment said the show, which opened in HOTA’s Paradise Room last night, is a cheeky, vaudeville-inspired variety spectacular with cabaretstyle seating and lashings of Strut & Fret’s signature sass.

“It’s a little bit more of a cross between a revue and vaudeville and variety,” he said. “We’ve got a great cast from overseas, a lot who have never been to Australia before.”

Maidment said the show goes from sexy to silly with “songs, a bit of magic, stunts, tap dancing and some crazy nonsense”.

“It’s an opportunity to build escapism – pure escapism,” he said.

“We’re excited and I think people of the Gold Coast are up for this entertainment.”

Maidment said the show was a chance for people to get out and “explore something that’s not Netflix”.

“In a world like today, where people are a bit afraid to cross boundaries or try things that are a little bit dangerous, it’s an opportunity to build escapism – but nothing that takes itself too seriously.”
