SURF FORECAST

Easing E tradewind swell maintains 2 to 3ft+ surf across the region on Friday before fading to lower levels over the weekend. A strong rise in S swell follows, initially building across northern NSW on Sunday ahead of a peak in S groundswel­l on Monday.

TODAY

E tradewind swell up to 3 to 4ft exposed breaks, 2 to 3ft elsewhere and grading smaller inside the points and bays. WIND: NW to NNW 5 to 15 knots early, tending N 10 to 15 knots during the afternoon, possibly WNW later..

TOMORROW

E tradewind swell around 2 to 3ft exposed QLD breaks, slowly fading during the day. Grading smaller inside the points and bays. WIND: WNW to NW, possibly tending WSW and freshening during the arvo.

SUNDAY

Residual E swell around 2ft exposed beaches, fading later. Superseded by rising, directiona­l S swell picking up from 1 to 3ft across northern NSW beaches towards 2 to 4ft during the afternoon. Expect smaller surf in the 1ft+ range along the points and inside the bays. WIND: Early WSW to SW 15 to 20 knots tending SSW 15 to 25 knots during the afternoon.

MONDAY

Potential for large S groundswel­l ranging from 4 to 8ft northern NSW southern exposures, wrapping at 3 to 5ft open beaches. Southern QLD: 2 to 3ft+ exposed beaches, smaller inside the points and bays. WIND: SSW to SSE 10 to 15 knots.

TUESDAY

Solid S swell slowly eases under moderating southerly winds. Sets to a solid 4 to 6ft+ exposed northern NSW beaches early, settling during the afternoon. Grading to 2 to 4ft exposed QLD beaches and down to a smaller 1 to 2ft inside the points and bays. WIND: Early SW to SSW inshore tending S to SSE around 15 knots.
