Bail after dance floor ‘glassing’

A MAN who allegedly glassed another man at the Coolangatt­a Hotel early on Saturday morning has been granted bail.

Brayden Dixon, 21, faced Southport Magistrate­s Court on Saturday morning charged with grievous bodily harm.

It is alleged Dixon and a 34year-old man, who are not known to each other, got into an disagreeme­nt at the Marine Pde hotel at about 1am.

The older man, asked a woman who was dancing with Dixon to stop bumping into him.

Police allege Dixon then approached the man and hit him with a seven ounce spirit glass to the right side of his face and ear, causing a long 10-15cm cut.

Dixon allegedly tried to leave the hotel, but was stopped by friends of the 34year-old man.

The Kooralbyn man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries to his ear and face.

Magistrate Pamela Dowse said: “This is a very, very serious charge … just horrible”, before passing her ruling.

Dixon has strict bail conditions, which include no contact – directly or indirectly – with the complainan­t, he’s not to enter and go to the Coolangatt­a Hotel, and report once weekly to police.

The 21-year-old will in court on July 26. reappear
