Treble big highlight for Pilley

- CONNOR O’BRIEN

AMBER Pilley has made her latest push for an NRL Women’s Premiership contract after putting Toowoomba to the sword with a four-try individual haul to help Burleigh to a 54-0 victory.

The left centre has been a standout for the SEQ Division One competition leaders all year, often earning praise for her defence. On Saturday, it was her attack that was on display for all to see on a cold day at Herb Steinohrt Oval.

“She is just biding her time at the moment,” Bears coach Tahnee Norris said.

“Unfortunately at a game like that she didn’t have any of the NRL guys watching her but it will come.

“She has just got to keep playing consistent footy and she’ll be right.”

The big win follows their 60-0 thrashing of Toowoomba in Round 9 and ensures the defending premiers will hold the points lead heading into the last two rounds of the regular season.

“The girls played really well,” said Norris, with Jasmine Kemp, Delwyn Fraser and Zahara Temara among her best.

“We’re just trying to set up for finals at the moment so the girls are all fighting for positions.”

Their next task is a home fixture against West Brisbane Panthers at Pizzey Park on Saturday, when they should welcome captain Tallisha Harden and fullback Chante Temara back from injury.

Following that will be a perfect audition for finals: A Round 16 showdown against Easts up at Langlands Park.
