A GOLD Coast concreter has had his license suspended for two years after doing a series of burnouts in his Holden Commodore, a court has heard.

The man drove erratically in the early hours of the morning following the State of Origin Game II match last month.

The court heard Jesse James King, 22, had an argument with his partner and consumed a couple of Jack Daniels drinks before crashing his car at Labrador.

King pleaded guilty to five driving charges in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday in relation to incident on June 25.

The court heard King “fishtailed” out of his driveway on Imperial Pde in a way that “wilfully made unnecessary noise” and travelled towards Government Rd, where he did a second burnout while doing a U-turn to travel back home.

As he went through a roundabout he spun the car’s wheels a third time, losing control of his car and smashing into a pole.

King jumped from his car, took the numberplates from the vehicle and ran home, where he told his partner about the crash.

She then ran to the car, took her belongings from it and went back home.

Nearby residents witnessed the crash and called police.

When police arrived at King’s house he told them an “unknown” person had taken his car and crashed it.

King then told police he had consumed some Jack Daniels before the crash and was later breath tested where returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.091 per cent.

At the time of the incident King was unlicenced. His car was impounded after the crash.

Defence lawyer Danielle Hurda, of Bamberry Lawyers, told the court her client was a person of good character.

Ms Hurda told the court King had an argument with his partner after watching the State of Origin before he started driving.

“He has made an impulse decision,” Ms Hurda said.

Magistrate Kerrie O’Callaghan gave King 80 hours of community service, to be completed within 12 months, suspended his licence for two years and fined him a total of $1500.
