Ladies pairs comes to end

- with Brett Wilkie

THE Broadbeach Prestige Ladies Pairs concluded yesterday with Kristy Thatcher (Tweed Heads) and Carmen Anderson, from Cabramatta, NSW, taking first prize with six wins +55.

Beenleigh’s Michelle Morris and Christine Hoad were second with six wins and +41.

Closely behind in third and fourth with five wins and a draw were Helensvale’s Jessie Cottell and Lynsey Clarke (+71) and Cassandra and Bolivia Millerick (+65) of Broadbeach.

SEAN Ingham (Broadbeach) won the $15,000 Tweed Open Premier Singles recently after defeating Beenleigh’s Dean McWhinney in the final.

In the past the best performed male and female in this event have been given a wildcard into the prestigious Golden Nugget at Tweed Heads.

Sadly for Ingham, this was not the case this year with the club deciding to invite a full field of 12 men and 12 women for August’s main event.

THE Australian Jackaroos finished half of their disciplines in the Multi Nations Test event in Wales overnight.

Aussies claimed a bronze in the women’s fours while the women’s singles, men’s pairs and triples were playing for gold last night (UK time).

They tonight start reverse disciplines of women’s pairs/ triples and men’s singles/fours.

This followed a two-test series where Australia defeated England last week.

THE Queensland under-18s are doing battle with New South Wales at Capalaba Bowls Club in Brisbane.

After two tests, NSW are leading in both girls and boys events after winning and drawing a test in each gender so far.

The third and final test will be completed in the morning with singles/fours first up and then pairs/triples to follow.

GOLD Coast Tweed Champion of Club Champion Men’s Pairs was played over the weekend at Musgrave Hill and is now down to the quarter finals. Braidan Leese and I won this event last year and are both lining up in different teams this year, with Leese moving from Helensvale to South Tweed.

This Sunday will see the quarter finals at Musgrave Hill with Southport v Robina, Tweed Heads v Broadbeach, South Tweed v McKenzie Park and Beenleigh v Helensvale.

The District Women’s Champion of Club Champion Fours will be played this Monday and Tuesday at Southport.
