Weyer way does a job
A TWO-GOAL cameo from visiting Australian Kookaburras player Corey Weyer helped Labrador to a comfortable win over the Brisbane Hockey League’s bottomplaced team on Saturday.
The match between the third-placed Tigerstix and winless Redcliffe Leagues at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre went to script with the home side winning 7-1.
Playing his first match for Labrador this season while on a break from Kookaburras training in Perth, Weyer opened the scoring in the seventh minute.
Both he and Jeremy Stephens had notched first-half doubles as Labrador raced to a big 5-0 lead at the main break.
Joe Reardon also ended the match with two goals for Labrador while Will Mathison completed the Tigerstix’s scoring with three minutes left in the contest, just after Adrian Cross had got Redcliffe Leagues on the board.
The result sees Labrador maintain its average of seven goals that they had scored over the previous five games.
The 2017 runners-up sit in equal third position on the BHL ladder with Pine Rivers St Andrews, five competition points behind second-placed Easts and six points back from leaders Commercial.
