KENNEDY’S JAPANESE FUN ROLLS ON

- JIM TUCKER

IF Australia ever selected a golf team for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics based on success in Japan, Sanctuary Cove’s Brad Kennedy would be a certain starter.

Kennedy’s career should get more kudos for someone who has worked diligently to win seven events in Australia, New Zealand and Japan. Last Sunday’s hot eight-under-par 64 to win for the third time on the Japanese Tour has bumped his world ranking up to No.160 and seventh among Aussies worldwide.

It might take another zika virus scare to frighten off the world’s top golfers for him to get into contention for Tokyo but Kennedy will quietly fight for that Olympic dream.

And why not? The 44year-old is staying in shape to win again.

“I hadn’t won in Japan for five years and I had forgotten a little about my sense of victory,” Kennedy said.

“At 44, I am spending as much time training my body as my golf play and the fitness is paying off.”
