Popular corner cafe taking a quick break

- SALLY COATES

THERE has been another operator leave one of the Gold Coast’s most iconic streets, but this time there is a positive spin to a typically sour situation.

Long-time Tedder Ave cafe Hard Coffee has changed hands from Dave Barron to Donna Joris, but the difference here is Ms Joris actually sold the business to Mr Barron eight years ago.

Her main message is she’s excited to be back at the popular corner site and despite the perils Tedder has encountered in recent years, she is positive about the future.

“I’m actually back,” she told the Bulletin yesterday.

“I worked under two owners before I bought it myself, then I sold it to Dave eight years ago. “It must be nearing 20 years old. “My husband got an opportunity in Canberra so we moved there and even though I wasn’t on the street anymore I had a lot of friends keeping me updated on what was going on,” she said.

“We knew things had gone quiet, business was tough, but we’re also hearing Tedder is coming back so hopefully this will help.”

As of today Hard Coffee will undergo a full demolition and renovation, with a whole new fit out and feel. But it will stick to tradition with the same name.

If all goes to plan, the new Hard Coffee with the old owner will be ready for business again in just one week.

A note left on the Hard Coffee front window on Saturday from Dave and Kerrie Barron read: “To our loyal and valued customers of the past eight years, we thank you for your continued support.

“We are confident the new operators will provide you with the best of service.”
