A MAN has been caught allegedly driving 187km/h, while three times over the limit early yesterday.

Police will allege they tried to pull the 34-year-old man over about 8.45am on the Pacific Hwy at Tyagarah, after they detected him allegedly driving 187km/h in a 100km zone.

While attempting to catch up to the Honda, police will allege they saw it overtake seven cars and a semi-trailer at speeds up to 185km/h.

They eventually pulled the Honda over at Tandys Lane, where they breath tested the man.

He was arrested and taken to Brunswick Heads Police Station where he underwent another breath test, returning a reading of 0.152, three times the legal limit.

Tweed/Byron Police district duty officer Detective Inspector Matthew Kehoe said the simple message is that drink driving and speeding kills and won’t be tolerated.

“It’s quite simple, people are dying on our roads because of poor decisions made by drivers and riders,” he said. “We will continue to take people off the roads who choose to drink and drive, or who can’t stay within the speed limit.”

The Queensland man is due to appear at Mullumbimby Local Court on Monday, August 27 charged with driving recklessly/furiously or speeding/manner dangerous, high range PCA, and exceed speed of more than 45km/h.

His licence was also suspended.
