GOAL-FEST AT BROADY

EPIC SCORELINE – AGAIN

- ALEXANDRA BERNARD

BROADBEACH and Tweed United are gaining a reputation for thrilling, high-scoring clashes after taking their collective tally to 24 goals across just two clashes.

In results to make the best goalkeepers sweat, the men’s teams have played twice this season – not surprisingly on both occasions third-placed Broadbeach have won.

Yet it’s been the manner of the wins – 7-4 in Round 3 and 8-5 at the weekend – which leave heads shaking.

Acting Broadbeach coach Damien Barker said in the 10 years he’s been at the club it’s the first time he’s seen scores this high.

Heading into last weekend’s game, Barker said the plan was to attack.

“We were pretty confident and were attacking right from the start, which might have left us a bit open,” he said after the Nikiforides Park clash.

Barker praised Tweed for taking their chances.

“Tweed played really well and they deserved all their goals,” he said.

Sitting ninth Tweed coach Jason Buchanan said he was confident of finding goals.

“We’ve potentially got one of the best counter-attacking

teams in the Gold Coast Premier League,” he said.

However, Buchanan said it was their defence that let them down.

“We made silly mistakes defensively,” he said.

“Every time we thought we were getting back into it, we’d concede another goal.”

Meanwhile, secondplaced Burleigh defeated sixth placed Nerang 4-2 in a wild game of fortunes.

After a dominant first half Burleigh led 4-0.

Burleigh coach Colin Phelan admitted his side dropped the ball in the second stanza.

“I thought the first half was very good, very clinical,” he said. “We weren’t good enough the second half.”
