‘Lock out’ on council
COUNCIL has said they are likely responsible for the missing padlock tributes on Kirra Hill, similar to the famous Paris Love Locks.
On Sunday a spokesman told the Bulletin they were not aware of the locks being removed, but would look into the situation.
Yesterday council said: “The City understands the placing of these locks has become popular, however, in locations where there are numerous locks they can cause damage to city assets and accelerate deterioration such as rusting and overstraining. Due to this risk, the City periodically removes the locks from areas where there are many and it is likely our officers removed the locks in question. The locks are discarded.”
Public reaction to the locks being removed has been mixed.
