NINJA STAR READY FOR MOST EXCITING CHALLENGE YET

- BRITT RAMSEY

GOLD Coaster Espen Hjalmby has made light work of the testing obstacles on hit Channel 9 show Ninja Warrior.

So he’ll probably be well able for the challenge of nappy changes and 3am feeds when Hjalmby and partner Bec Markham welcome their first baby in September.

“It’s phenomenal – the most incredible thing ever,” he said. “I knew when I was running and facing obstacles, I was doing it for something greater than myself, now with the baby coming, what I’m doing is even more meaningful.

“I’m really excited, because I was a hyperactive kid – it’s part of being a ninja – being able to have someone challenge me will be amazing. I’m certain the lesson coming my way is about patience.”

Espen and Ms Markham met in Coolangatta “just before Ninja” in July last year.

He said when they met it was “love at first sight”, and it’s been a whirlwind romance since.

“I asked her the first day if she wanted to have my babies – I’d never asked anyone else that question. She said yes on the day, and here we are.”
