Medal slip easy error

A MILITARY historian has hit back at claims LNP candidate in Longman Trevor “Big Trev” Ruthenberg wrongly claimed a military award.

It was reported yesterday Mr Ruthenberg had claimed to have received an Australian Service Medal for distinguished service.

He had actually received the Australian Defence Medal, for serving longer than four years.

Surfers Paradise RSL President and historian Ross Eastgate said it was “an error anyone can make”.

“He’s not claiming service that he doesn’t have, and apart from misnaming a medal, he hasn’t claimed anything that he’s not entitled to,” he said.

“I think it’s rubbish, it’s absolute rubbish, he’s made an error anyone can make.”
