Nothdurft remains in the saddle

- TOM BOSWELL

APPRENTICE jockey Baylee Nothdurft has vowed to bounce back from a broken wrist suffered at the Gold Coast and continue his push into the Brisbane racing scene.

Nothdurft’s season was cut short after the Toowoomba jockey broke his right wrist after being dislodged by the Jason Gregory-trained Fish On behind the barriers prior to the QTIS Three-Years-Old Maiden Handicap (1400m) on Saturday.

Nothdurft was taken to hospital following the incident.

The 19-year-old is expected to miss between six to weight weeks of riding due to the injury.

Nothdurft said it couldn’t have come at a worse time after managing to break into the competitive Brisbane racing scene where he won with just his second ride with Pure Pulse on June 27.

“I was starting to try to get a kick along in Brisbane,” Nothdurft said.

“It takes a lot of hard work to get noticed in Brisbane and I was just starting to get rides for the big trainers and now this has put me out. It’s not good but I’ll be right.”

Nothdurft said he felt some relief that metropolitan trainers including premiership leader Tony Gollan, Kelly Schweida and Ben Currie had signalled their intent to give the hoop another go when he returns.
