GUY’S HOPES

BARRIER NO ISSUE AT AQUIS PARK

- TOM BOSWELL tom.boswell@news.com.au

BRYAN Guy says a start from barrier 13 today won’t be an issue for Felino Bel at Aquis Park, as the Gold Coast trainer prepares the filly for a run in Brisbane.

Felino Bel will be running for a third straight win in the Class 5 Handicap (1200m).

“She has just had a bit of a freshen-up because there wasn’t really any races that suited her at the time but this one does,” Guy said.

The three-year-old will start from the widest gate in the field but Guy said he held no concerns, given Felino Bel’s tradition for running from behind.

“She gets back a bit anyway and she is racing well,” Guy said. “We are quite happy with her and the way she has worked, and she trialled really nice the other day when she got fourth.”

Guy said today’s run would be part of the filly’s preparation for a race in Doomben on July 28. “We have another race in mind for her,” Guy said.

“It’s a Saturday meeting in 10 days so it will carry more prizemoney. It’s a nice race.”

Felino Bell went to Brisbane on three consecutive occasions in her first preparation last year, where her best was a third-place finish.

Guy said they had brought her back to provincial racing to gain confidence and mature while not over-racing her.

“We brought her back to get more confidence,” Guy said.

“It was just about letting her mature. She was very immature and we just let her come along and this preparation has been really good.

“She isn’t a big, robust filly but she is a filly that has got stronger and better as she has got older.

“We haven’t rushed her and the owners, Bill and Lynn Bain, have been very good and haven’t rushed her.”
