ASHMORE GROUND ZERO FOR WAR

- BRIANNA MORRIS-GRANT

BATTLE tactics, springing and diving for cover, firing bullets – it sounds like a scene from a war movie.

But you could soon be seeing this at a local park, with Foam Battles Gold Coast firing its first shots in fun at Ashmore.

The group had the humblest of starts, when friends Griffin Marshall, 22, and Luke Salter, 36, got talking at work about what they’d like to do.

Thinking paint ball and laser tag would be too expensive, they came up with the idea of taking their Nerf guns – toys that shoot foam bullets – to the park.

Though the conversation was fast broken up by their boss, the idea stuck.

Four months on, they’ve just held their first open day and the next open day, dubbed Nerf Wars, will be held at Ashmore’s Expo Park on Saturday, July 28.

There’s a simple reason the two of them decided to open it up to the public.

“We wanted more people to come out, make some more friends, get people to hang out and have a bit of fun, that was the main reason,” Mr Salter said.

Participants are urged to register and read the rules on foambattlesgc.com before going along.
