FIVE BIG MOMENTS AT CARRARA

-

1990 – First home game The Gold Coast Cougars’ legendary first NBL squad comprised of Leroy Coombs, Brian Kelleybrew, Larry Sengstock, Eric Bailey and Ron Radliff. The team didn’t perform well, but the seeds were sown.

1991 Change of ownership The Gold Coast team was rebranded as the Rollers. This was an effort to engage with Jupiter’s Casino at the time. Dave Claxton as head coach and the brilliant import pairing of Andre La Fleur (below) and Mike Mitchell delivered some highs. Many of this team stayed on the Gold Coast and have children playing now – Peter Hill, Brendan LeGassick, Doug Peacock to name a few.

1992-93 Memorable wins Who can forget the double overtime win over the Melbourne Tigers? Or beating the Perth super team of Ricky Grace, James Crawford, Andrew Vlahov and Scott Fisher? And of course beating the arch enemy Brisbane Bullets. 1993 NBL 3 on 3

In this pre-season tournament three backboards were broken , none more iconic than when Jim Havrilla power-dunked and had the backboard shatter all over him.

1999 Harlem Globetrotters

The world’s most famous sports entertainment team has played at Carrara Stadium to packed houses.
