NATHAN’S QUICK TO PUNCH OUT 150 GAMES FOR THE CATS

- TOM BOSWELL @TomBoswellGCB

NATHAN Quick says he has never felt closer to winning a premiership with Broadbeach as he prepares to his 150th senior game for the Cats.

Quick will reach the milestone when Broadbeach play Surfers Paradise Demons in Round 14 of the QAFL tomorrow at Sir Bruce Small Park. The centre-halfback has been part of the club for the past 20 years, spending the last decade representing the senior side.

Last year’s third-place finish and preliminary final loss to Labrador was as close as Quick has come to winning a flag with the club but the 28-year-old said the continued improvement in 2018 had him confident this season was their best chance yet.

“That’s a big reason as to why you play footy, trying to achieve that with a group of mates,” Quick said.

“You work so hard from pre-season in November to September the next year so it’s a reward for all the effort everyone puts in.

“It would be a special thing to do.

“The last few years we have been able to steadily improve. We finished third last year and we are second at the moment so it’s an exciting time.”

Quick moved to the Gold Coast from Geelong with his family at the age of eight and despite an offer to play for Werribee in the Victorian Football League, the 190cm talent, who weighs 92kg, has never wanted to leave the Cats.

“It’s the same with most footy clubs, it’s about the people you get to meet and the relationships you build,” Quick said.

“I’ve been very lucky to play at the same club. There are lots of guys who have to stop playing for various reasons, whether it’s injury or they just want to do other things in their life.

“I have been lucky to make it all work.”
