Drunk’s car hit by train

-

A DRUNK driver is lucky to be alive after driving his car on to train tracks in the Adelaide Hills and escaping the vehicle just before a train smashed into it.

Emergency services were called to the crossing at Balhannah on Saturday night responding to reports of a Toyota Supra being hit by a train.

The driver, who later registered a 0.190 blood alcohol reading, saw the train coming and managed to escape. The train drivers were not injured.

It took emergency services until about 3am to clear the wreckage.
