Coast in sevens heaven

MORE Brisbane teams could make their way down for Gold Coast District Rugby Union’s second female sevens gala day after a success at Coomera.

Twenty teams battled it out across four divisions on Saturday and Helensvale particularly had a field day, defeating Coomera in the under-13 grand final and trumping Surfers Paradise in the under-15s.

Their teams also made it to the under-17 and open deciders, which were won by Miami State High School and University of Queensland, respectively. Sunnybank joined UQ in making the trek down the M1.

“We now have got a lot of interest from all sorts of teams from Brisbane,” tournament director Mike Elliston said.

“They really enjoyed it. It should be a big event on the 8th (of August).”
