Seagulls belted by Townsville

-

TWEED Heads’ Intrust Super Cup finals dash is in tatters after their bogy side Townsville picked them off once again.

The Seagulls were never in the contest yesterday at Hughenden, with the Blackhawks crossing twice in the first four minutes to set up a 62-12 demolition job.

Townsville have now beaten Tweed by 28 points or more in all seven games between the sides and this drubbing could hurt the most.

The Piggabeen club are still only one win out of the top six but have a shocking differential that will make their case all the more difficult with five regular season rounds remaining.

Tries to Kane Elgey and Talor Walters were the small moments of reprieve for Tweed, which next faces Mackay at home.

It was better news for the Coast’s other ISC team Burleigh, which secured vital competition points with a 24-14 defeat of Central Queensland at Maryborough on Saturday.

Centre Sami Sauiluma scored twice on return from suspension while Dallas Wells, Jamal Fogarty and Jamie Dowling all made comebacks from injury.

“Heading into finals we just want to string a few good wins together,” Sauiluma said.

“We still have a lot of improvement to do so hopefully in the next couple of weeks we can bring everything together and knock out a good 80 minutes.’’ Sauiluma also enjoyed the chance to catch up with his 2016 premiership centre partner Connor Broadhurst, who nabbed a four-pointer of his own for the Capras.

“We caught up with Broady before and after the game,” he said.
