Marking Games legacy
MEMORIES of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games have been preserved in perpetuity with the creation of Legacy Hall at the Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame.
While more than 1700 items used during the Games – from sports equipment and tools to defibrillators and parts of the athletics track – have found new homes at schools and sports organisations, Legacy Hall has many other items of merchandise and memorabilia on display. From pieces of the Games Village, to merchandise, a replica Queen’s Baton, a victory dais and all things Borobi, it’s all on show at Legacy Hall.
Gold Coast Sporting Hall of Fame president Daphne Pirie, marathon gold medallist Michael Shelley and swimming champion Tracey Wickham were at Saturday’s unveiling.
