Bowls boss to propel league
FORMER Gold Coast Commonwealth Games bowls manager and Bowls Australia event manager Mark Casey will take a role in creating a new bowls competition.
The Ultimate Bowls Championship (UBC) will start next year and be played on three separate occasions with $500,000 prizemoney.
Casey has been on the road across Australia searching for 24 clubs or franchisees to form the new competition, which will be three bowl pairs played over five end games.
This event will be televised on free-to-air Channel 7 TWO and live-streamed on the Seven Network app. It will also be simulcast on Fox Sports.
“The Ultimate Bowls Championship will be a great event for bowls. We have designed the format to be fast, fun and action packed, which will entertain the spectators”, Casey said.
“With the support of Bowls Australia, and on the back of Australia’s most successful Commonwealth Games campaign, we have a real opportunity to enhance the profile of our sport around the world.”
The first event will be held at the Warilla Bowls Club on March 30-31, 2019.
Bowls Australia regional bowls manager for southeast Queensland, Andrew Howie, will replace Casey as Bowls Australia’s event manager.
This role will include running all Bowls Australia major events as well as the 2019 AsiaPacific Games and 2020 World Championship events, which will be held on the Gold Coast.

Broadbeach also claimed the fours with Cassandra Millerick, Sue McKenzie, Dee-Ann Robertson and Bolivia Millerick defeating Tweed Heads in their final. The pairs started yesterday at Tweed Heads and will continue with finals today.
Men’s singles are down to the semis at Musgrave Hill on Sunday. South Tweed’s Dale McWhinney-Shillington will take on Robina greenkeeper Simon Brown and Paradise Point’s Eric Johannes plays Alan Law from Mudgeeraba.
