SURF’S UP AS JAGGER AND PIPER EYE STATE GLORY

-

JAGGER Bartholomew will chase redemption at Saturday’s Queensland junior titles series.

For fellow Coolangatta talent Piper Harrison, a repeat of 2017 will do just fine.

The pair will headline the Gold Coast hopefuls on the Sunshine Coast this weekend in two days set to attract some of the state’s best young surfers.

Bartholomew, son of 1978 world champion Wayne “Rabbit” Bartholomew, will go head-to-head against Alexandra Headland’s Alistair Reginato in the marquee under-18 boys’ division.

Reginato and Bartholomew fought a coast v coast battle for the 2017 title, with Reginato taking the lead and title in the final.

Harrison, meanwhile, claimed the under-18 girls’ decider last year but faces a stacked field including Sunshine Coast local Holly Williams.

The under-16 champion of 2017 will step up to the 18s, pitting her against Harrison who has been a rising star of recent seasons.

Two wildcards for the WSL World Tour’s 2019 Quiksilver and Roxy Pro’s trials will be up for grabs.

Queensland’s under-18 male and female state champions will each be offered the chance to compete against the world’s elite.

This weekend’s junior titles is also the exclusive qualification pathway for selection in Queensland’s team for the Australian junior championships later in the year in South Australia.
