MAGNATE’S MANSION FOR SALE AFTER LONG HAUL

- JESSICA BROWN AND ALEISHA DAWSON

TRUCKING magnate

Ian Cootes is putting this $5 million, award-winning mansion on the market because he is hitting the road for Melbourne.

The Sanctuary Cove home has a commercial-grade bar, 400-bottle wine room, infinity edge self-cleaning pool and outdoor deck.

Mr Cootes and his wife, Maria, bought the block in 2008. “We’ve been at Sanctuary Cove for over 20 years,” Mr Cootes said. “When we saw that block of land on Anchorage Terrace we decided we would buy it with the intention of selling our other Sanctuary Cove property.”

They enlisted architect Paul Ziukelis and builder JM Building Development to breathe life into their vision.

The house took eight months to build and was finished in 2010.

It stands out from surrounding properties on the street with a white exterior and river stone cladding.

Inside, the gallery-styled double ceiling height foyer attracts the eye and floor-toceiling windows make the most of river views.

Its contemporary designed earned the property the 2011 Master Builders Gold Coast Housing and Construction Award for best individual home.

The kitchen with 10m island bench and Gaggenau appliances is a standout for Mr Cootes.

“We imported the kitchen from Italy,” he said.

“It’s a magnificent kitchen with a lot of stainless steel and marble.”

The couple stay in the property at least once a month but Mr Cootes said it was time to move on.

“The main reason we’ve put the house on the market is we have family and business in Melbourne and we need to be in Melbourne more than we need to be in Queensland,” he said.
