Hedger has title race cut to two

BOND University director of rugby Sean Hedger believes the Queensland Premier Rugby premiership is a twohorse race – and he’s tipping a surprise.

The Bullsharks’ finals hopes ended at the weekend when both Easts and Souths clinched bonus-point victories to secure their places in the top four alongside University of Queensland and GPS.

Ahead of the last regular season round this Saturday, UQ have wrapped up their third consecutive minor premiership but Hedger is not so sure that they will go on to defend their 2017 title.

“Firepower-wise, Souths have got the team to do it but given that GPS rolled them the other week, I think it will be GPS or Souths,” Hedger predicted.

GPS were runners-up last year while 2015 premiers Souths are the only team Bond haven’t beaten this season.

Bond drew 24-24 with the Magpies in Round 15, having been hammered by them the first time around back in May.

The Bullsharks finish their season on Saturday with an away fixture against Norths.
