SHERRIFF BRINGS OUT BIG GUNS FOR SHOWDOWN

-

NEW Helensvale Pacific Pines coach Dylan Sherriff has promised to put his own spin on things when the Hawks strive to go one better in the Kookaburra Cup this summer.

With stalwart Paul Baird – who has moved into a coaching director position – at the helm in 2017-18, the club charged to its maiden first grade grand final appearance.

Though they fell at the final hurdle to premiers Burleigh on that occasion, Sherriff believes his young squad are primed to continue their rise.

“I’m excited with how this young group progressed last season and I’m hopeful I can carry on and further improve the way we play,” said the off-spinner, who took 31 wickets for the Hawks last summer.

“All through the grades there is the potential to improve and I feel we are on the right path to success.

“It’s not very often you can jump into a position like this and have such a great system already in place. Credit to Bairdy, he’s done a fantastic job. I’ll be using a lot of his lessons and tips but putting my own influence on them to hopefully bring the best out of the group.”

In addition to Baird, Sherriff will have the support of Nick Stevens, who will act as assistant coach between his playing duties at the Gold Coast Dolphins.
