QUEENSLANDER John Millman yesterday beat German Jan-Lennard Struff in straight sets at the German Open in Hamburg to set up a tricky second-round clash with world No.8 Dominic Thiem.

Millman saved three break points to overcome Struff 7-5, 6-3 on the clay at Hamburg’s Am Rothenbaum.

Fellow Australians Thanasi Kokkinakis, James Duckworth and Alex Bolt were knocked out of the Atlanta Open in the US after first-round defeats.

Kokkinakis was beaten 6-3, 6-4 by fellow qualifier Noah Rubin.
