SHOOTING VICTIM’S MILLION DOLLAR MANSION

- NICHOLAS MCELROY

THE GOLD Coast man who was shot in the leg at pointblank range and dumped on the side of the road at Helensvale is from a wealthy family and owns a million dollar waterfront mansion.

Luke Tomlinson, 42, is the brother of entrepreneur Sean Tomlinson, who rocketed into the BRW rich list in 2016 with a fortune exceeding $150 million, and the son of Owen Tomlinson, the co-owner of now defunct basketball team Gold Coast Blaze.

Property searches reveal Tomlinson is the co-owner of a $1.4 million waterfront property at Paradise Point and has owned a five hectare rural property at Advancetown since 1999.

He remains in the Gold Coast University Hospital with a serious leg injury after he was found bleeding on the side of the road at Monterey Keys Drive sparking a citywide manhunt on Thursday last week.

Detectives last night charged a second man in relation to the shooting.

The 27-year-old Nerang man was charged with one count each of acts intended to maim and robbery in company whilst armed. He will appear in Southport Magistrates Court later today.

Another man, Jason Lister, 27, was remanded in custody after handing himself into police on Sunday. Lister was charged with eight offences including armed robbery and acts intended to maim.

Tomlinson was due to appear in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday for unrelated drugs and weapons charges.

Police allegedly found him in the possession of an air rifle and dangerous drugs on May 24.

Tomlinson’s defence lawyer Jason Jacobson, of Jacobson Mahony Lawyers, asked for his appearance to be excused in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday.

“He was shot in the leg and left on the road at Helensvale last week,” Mr Jacobson told the court. “He is not in a position to appear.” Magistrate Mark Howden adjourned the matter until August 23.
