Cat mayor for village

-

THE small northern Michigan village of Omena has elected a feline, named Sweet Tart, as its new mayor. Dogs Diablo Shapiro and Punkin Anderson Harder are both vice mayors. An election committee also named Harley the goat as press secretary. But the seats are ceremonial – WPBN-TV reports that the election is a fundraiser costing $1 per vote and brought in more than $7,000 to the Omena Historical Society.

An inauguration and parade were held on Saturday. The elected officials will serve threeyear terms.
