UNCOVER ART OF OUR CITY

-

FOR the next three weeks, I’m going to take you on the art trails of the greater Gold Coast.

The Glitter Strip is renowned for its night life and beaches, but we’re quite in touch with our cultural side too — when we get a chance.

I’ve drummed up must-see galleries to take yourself out for a day of questioning, inspiration and all things art.

We’ll start with the Gold Coast itself, beginning with the city-run HOTA Gallery.

Until September 9, A World View: The Tim Fairfax Gift exhibition is running. This is a regional touring exhibition and has works from established artists, as well as emerging artists and features a range of artworks from across the globe.

Our next stop is a favourite of mine — whenever I stop by Cardamom Pod, I always drag my partner or friends to this little gem.

Gallery One Southport usually has large-scale paintings, but also showcases sculptures.

The works range from contemporary oils to more traditional still-lifes – and everything in-between.

There’s always something to delight the senses here.

Also in Southport is Boomerang Art, an Aboriginal art gallery. The works are jawdropping and the owner ensures the artwork is authentic, supporting original indigenous artwork. Another must-see.

Down at Main Beach, the small but delightful Anthea Polson art gallery showcases a wide range of artwork — often modern paintings. Their current exhibition is of Samantha Everton artworks, but I love northern NSW artist Sebastion Toast’s quirky and colourful paintings too.
