Currie horses cleared of illegal substances

-

EACH of the seven horses tested in the Weetwood Handicap day raid of trainer Ben Currie’s Toowoomba stable have been cleared of having any prohibited substances in their system.

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission alleged the seven horses had been illegally treated on the morning of the race, and at subsequent inquiries Currie’s father Mark was disqualified for two years and stablehand Greg Britnell for 18 months after being found guilty of race-day treatments.

A hearing for Ben Currie is scheduled for August 13 when he faces charges emanating from the Weetwood day activities and other matters.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commissioner Ross Barnett said it was important to be transparent about the test results that had now been cleared of prohibited substances, but he also pointed out it was a separate matter from the allegations of race-day treatment.

Prizemoney earnt by the horses in question, including Toowoomba Guineas winner Hang, has been paid.
