LIFE’S A BEACH ON SIZZLING WINTER DAY

- PEYTON HUTCHINS peyton.hutchins@news.com.au

STUNNING winter weather is set to continue on the Gold Coast after one of the driest seasons on record.

Only 29.4mm has fallen this month, while the July average sits at 73mm.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Adam Blazak said rainfall figures could be hard to compare suburb to suburb.

“The rainfall figures come from shower activity, but it’s tricky when it comes to measuring because when it’s humid in a certain area it can generate rainfall on just one suburb. So the majority of the city could have had no rain, but one area could have quite a lot.”

BOM Senior forecaster Rick Threlfall said winter was a dry season on the Coast.

“July is often a month of extremes, with the Coast recording 0mm in 2015 and a sweltering 28.9C in 2016,” he said.

Chef Matt Vogel spent Sunday at his favourite place – the beach.

“No matter the season the Coast always has beautiful weather,” he said.

“I go to the beach every day, no matter what.”

The final days of July are expected to bring a southwesterly wind change, bringing low humidity, with a winter chill.

But from August 1 until the end of the week the warm conditions will return, with top temperatures of 22C and 24C forecast.
