Fittler: Send off sin-bin dawdlers

-

NSW Origin coach Brad Fittler has a simple solution for the NRL’s sin-bin dawdlers – send them off for the remainder of the match.

There have been a record amount of sin-binnings this season as referees crack down on ruck infringements and offsides by defending teams close to their goal line.

But Fittler says he thinks players are regarding a 10minute stint in the bin as a “badge of honour” and milking every second of their long, slow trudge off the field as they give their team more time to recover and regroup.

“I’d give them a warning to speed up, then send them off, simple as that,” Fittler declared on Channel Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.

“It’s become a bit of a badge of honour ... you watch all of them all just walk off, take the furthest route, walk this way then go up towards halfway.”

Fellow commentator Peter Sterling agreed that action needed to be taken.

“It annoys everybody ... players are getting enough rest in the game now, and then getting this,” he said.

“Maybe send the medicab on (to cart them off quicker).”
