Tigers spoil Reardon party

-

EASTS spoiled the party in Labrador captain Joe Reardon’s 250th Brisbane Hockey League appearance on Saturday, putting a dent in the Tigerstix’ top three aspirations with a 3-1 win at Carina.

In a game featuring a battle between Commonwealth Games gold medal-winning teammates Mark Knowles (Easts) and Dylan Wotherspoon (Labrador), it was the former Kookaburras captain who emerged triumphant.

Easts’ Mackenzie Warne opened the scoring eight minutes before halftime, before Jacob Webber doubled the lead three minutes later with a penalty corner drag flick that whizzed past Labrador goalkeeper Aaron Weiss.

Wotherspoon pulled one back for the Tigerstix in the 44th minute, but Easts’ twogoal cushion was restored when Arin Doig knocked Knowles’ pinpoint 70m overhead pass into the net for one of the goals of the season.

The result allowed Pine Rivers St Andrews to leapfrog Labrador into third spot, with the sides to meet at Keith Hunt Park this Saturday.
