Uni team’s Mars dream
A SELF-SUFFICIENT habitat to house up to 20,000 people on Mars in coming decades has been designed by an Australian university team as part of an international competition.
The futuristic honeycomb concept, titled Nova Domus, is designed to cater for a sustainable population base and be positioned over the Red Planet as underground cities. Oxygen and agricultural generation under a biosphere dome, together with its subterranean profile to protect against violent extremes in temperature, form part of the RMIT team’s entry.
