Fine for police assault

A MAN has been fined $800 and ordered to pay $200 compensation after attempting to “run through” a police officer in Surfers Paradise.

Jacob Errol Monk, 25, pleaded guilty to public nuisance and assaulting police in the Southport Magistrates Court yesterday.

The court heard Monk was involved in a fight on July 15 where a number of punches were thrown at Underground Nightclub on Orchid Ave. He attempted to “run through” an officer as he tried to flee police.

The court heard Monk had “very little recollection” because he had “consumed a significant amount of alcohol”.

Magistrate Louise Shephard said Monk was lucky the second man in the fight was not identified because he could have faced more serious charges.
