The age of youngster Jim Byrne, who looks set to flourish in the absence of Gold Coast veterans Jeff Lloyd and Robbie Fradd in the 2018-19 Queensland metropolitan premiership race. Lloyd, 56, has announced his intention to retire while Fradd, 53, is riding in Mauritius. Byrne is no Jimmy come lately, though. The 2018 Hollindale Stakes-winning rider won his fourth metropolitan title in 2014-15, the season before Lloyd’s reign began.
