DE VITOS’ NEW BABY IS SOMETHING TO SING ABOUT

- SUZANNE SIMONOT

THE team behind De Vito Waterfront Restaurant is preparing to welcome a baby – a baby restaurant, that is.

The original singing chef David De Vito and his wife Tarscha will open their latest venture, Bambino, in the Benowa Centre on Ashmore Rd next week in the site that formerly housed Signor Rossi Cantina Italiana.

The De Vito family has a long, proud history of serving traditional Italian fare on the Gold Coast.

Mr De Vito plans to recreate the “heady trattoria days” of Labrador destination Ciao Restaurant – the De Vito family’s original traditional Italian venue where “the food was great and singing was better”.

Mr De Vito is a wellknown face and voice to Australian audiences after his grand final appearance on Australia’s Got Talent.

Fast forward 10 years and Mr De Vito is handing the baton over to his apprentice-singing chef Jack Watson, who will perform for diners each night at Bambino – or as the family know it, The Baby De Vito.

Mr Watson, who turns 17 in September, has been a regular in the kitchen and appeared as a feature performer at De Vito Waterfront restaurant for the past two years.

“Hosting guest singers and giving up-and-coming performers a platform to experience the joy of singing in a welcoming Italian family environment is an amazing opportunity,” he said.

Bambino is scheduled to open on August 8.
