LEADERS WARN

- KATE PARASKEVOS

SURFERS business leaders are concerned the sale of the Bruce Bishop car park could deter visitors to the precinct.

Surfers Paradise RSL president and war veteran Ross Eastgate said just like Broadbeach and Tedder Ave, Surfers Paradise needed an economic boost.

But selling vital car park spaces to private entities would not provide it.

“Everywhere is struggling at the moment,” he said.

“Unless you’re a regular, it probably doesn’t worry you, but for us it makes a difference and people need somewhere to park.

“Our wider concern is that they (the new owners) will amp up the cost eventually to get their money back after the sale.”

Martin Hall from the Central Chamber of Commerce said they were “under the impression” the facility would have been sold
