Celebrity looks set to stay on Tweed

- CAMPBELL GELLIE

TELEVISION production company Granada will be fined $6000, but allowed to increase the number of vehicles that enter their Tweed-based jungle set.

Tweed Shire councillors unanimously voted last night to fine the makers of reality show I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here for exceeding its vehicle quota, but also to negotiate to increase the 80-day-limit at the Dungay site.

Previously, the company said if the limit was not increased the show, which has been filmed in northern NSW for 15 years, would have to leave the region.

Councillor Chris Cherry (pictured) proposed the motion only allow the extension during the production period of the show. Cr James Owen said he would not support Cr Cherry’s recommendation, knowing he had the majority support of the councillors.

Her suggestion was thrown out and the original motion was adopted unanimously.

Council officers will work with Granada on what the new limit will be before it appears before council again.
