Global pact on borders
HOME Affairs Minister Peter Dutton has ruled out signing on to a global pact on migration, insisting he won’t allow the United Nations to undermine Australia’s borders.
More than 190 countries have agreed to the pact, which seeks to promote safe and orderly migration and reduce human trafficking, but Australia will not be joining them.
“We’re not going to sign a document that surrenders our sovereignty,” Mr Dutton told 2GB radio yesterday.
“We’re serious about keeping our borders secure.”
