SUMMER CITY TO GET REBOOTED
A LITTLE over 40 years ago Phil Avalon was sitting in his flat near Tamarama beach in Sydney and sketched out a brief outline for a movie about four mates and their adventures during a buck’s weekend. He managed to scratch together $30,000 to turn the script into a movie and Summer City was born. It starred Mel Gibson in his first movie plus Australian acting luminaries John Jarratt, Steve Bisley and Abigail who starred alongside Phil in the film which went on to become a cult classic.
All these years later Phil has co-written a sequel with Greg Clayton and the film is now in development, with Phil set to be the director.
