AFLW CHANCE FOR BELLA

- TOM BOSWELL

GOLD Coast Suns academy player Lauren Bella is one step closer to fulfilling her AFLW dream after being invited to attend this year’s draft combine.

The Bond University QWAFL player is one of just three Queenslanders among the 36 invited to attend the combine.

Bella secured her place in the combine after representing Queensland in the under-18 national championships.

The 188cm ruck was vicecaptain of the Queensland team and also played in the recent AFL Women’s Winter Series for the Suns.

Bella has previously revealed she was nearly lost to football. The 17-year-old played footy as a junior in north Queensland but a lack of pathways resulted in her switching to netball where she was picked in Netball Queensland’s elite development squad.

But she returned to Australian football with the hope of making it to the AFLW and she now stands on the cusp of achieving her dream.
