Tigerstix still in hunt
A LAST-gasp Dylan Wotherspoon goal has kept alive Labrador’s hopes of a vital double chance in the Brisbane Hockey League finals.
The fourth-placed Tigerstix entered Saturday’s Round 16 match against Pine Rivers St Andrews three points adrift of the Brisbane outfit.
But a 2-2 draw at the Gold Coast Hockey Centre ensures Labrador’s fight for a top-three spot, and with it two chances in the playoffs, remains alive. The Saints’ former Kookaburras star, Liam de Young, opened the scoring shortly after halftime, with Zac Profke doubling their lead with a penalty corner in the 57th minute.
Captain Joe Reardon then replied for Labrador just a minute later, before Wotherspoon equalised in the final minute.
The Tigerstix travel to Norths in the penultimate round on Saturday.
