Robina men miss finals cut

-

ROBINA’S men’s teams were left to lick their wounds after surprise losses to Moreton Bay in Round 16 of QFA Division 2 on Saturday.

Staring down the barrel of relegation, the seniors had aimed to repeat the result of their first encounter with the Lions in Round 7, but succumbed at Moreton Bay Central Sports Complex, 13.16 (94) to 8.12 (60).

Captain David Manning booted two goals in the first quarter and battled hard in the midfield to have his side within 10 points at halftime and seven points at three-quarter time.

However, the Roos were powerless to stop a late blitz on the sticks by the home side, going down by 34 points in the end.

In the reserves, the Roos were knocked off balance by a seven-goal barrage from the Lions in the first quarter. The home side had extended its lead to an unassailable 63 points by the final change, before recording an emphatic 18.9 (117) to 5.5 (35) victory.

Lion Chris Allen finished with a mammoth tally of 10 majors.

With the men’s teams now out of the finals race, Robina’s women’s team will carry the club’s premiership hopes as it heads into the first semi-final of QWFA Division 2 South this weekend after a bye at the weekend.
