Chinderah Village nod
THE $7.25 million Chinderah Village development will go ahead despite the Tweed Mayor and two councillors saying it was too big for the area.
The new hotel and shopping centre development was approved a fortnight ago.
At a council meeting last Thursday, Green Mayor Katie Milne, Cr Chris Cherry and Cr Ron Cooper lodged a motion to overturn that decision in favour of more community consultation. It was refused as councillors James Owen, Reece Byrnes, Pryce Allsop and Warren Polglase voted against it.
Cardno principal town planner John O’Grady said the developers, Taphouse, were happy the original approval still stood.
“We were confused why the recision motion was made,” he said. “This is very good news and the project can be open to more scrutiny as the development process continues.”
