GARDEN OF SURFERS

1925: Jim Cavill moves to Elston and opens his famous Surfers Paradise Hotel. The wooden structure has 16 hotel rooms and becomes a major landmark in the growing area.

1936: The hotel burns to the ground but is rebuilt as a brick building on the corner of what is now Cavill Ave and Surfers Paradise Boulevard.

1952: Cavill dies but the hotel continues to operate, hosting music acts throughout the 1960s and 1970s.

1981: The hotel and beer garden are demolished to create the Paradise Centre. The Surfers Paradise Beer Garden reopens.

2009: Beer Garden undergoes most recent facelift.
