Forum to address Games loss

-

BUSINESSES and security workers left underpaid during the Commonwealth Games have been encouraged to air their grievances at a community forum this evening.

LNP member for Currumbin Jann Stuckey who had previously called on the Palaszczuk Government to address the concerns of Gold Coast businesses as part of an inquiry into wage theft, says those with concerns must demand they be addressed at a forum held by ALP MP Meaghan Scanlon.

Minister for Industrial Relations Grace Grace is also billed to attend.

The ‘Gold Coast forum into wage theft’, hosted by the Member for Gaven aims to “shine a light” on unpaid wages, however Mrs Stuckey said those hit hard by the Games are yet to be covered.

“It is hypocritical for the ALP members to hold a politically charged forum on wage theft for the unions while failing to listen to those who had been affected during the Games,” Mrs Stuckey said.

“I feel very strongly about the losses that faced so many businesses during the Games but also the lack of payment made to security guards during the Games was clearly wage theft,” she said.

“It smacks of political opportunism, every person with grievances about the handling of Games pay should turn up.”
